product description: |
The VBM Freccia 8×8 wheeled infantry fighting vehicle is a neutral armored vehicle developed by Iveco-Otto Melara. The vehicle is the first model used by the Italian Army for network-centric warfare.
The VBM Freccia infantry fighting vehicle was developed between 1992-96 on the chassis of the Centaur 105mm tank destroyer. The first prototype was built in 1996.
The vehicle’s armor has been improved to provide the crew with better protection against explosives. Freccia’s internal space has been optimized to carry an eight-man combat team, including two operators and a driver in the turret.
The first VBM Freccia IFV was delivered to the Italian Army in February 2009 at the Army Multipurpose Experimentation and Testing Center in Montelibreti, Rome.
