The BMD-4 paratroopers entered the Russian Airborne Forces in 2005. The car uses the BMD-3 chassis, but the firepower has been significantly improved. In some cases, the BMD-4 can use its firepower to counter enemy main battle tanks and artillery during landing. Some of the old BMD-3s were upgraded to BMD-4, and the production of new cars was slow. The Russian airborne troops were only equipped with about 60 vehicles.
This new paratrooper is equipped with the same weapons as the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle, a 100mm main gun and a coaxial 30mm cannon. Its firepower is far better than the previous generation. The 100mm main gun can also launch “Blastenburg” laser-guided anti-tank missiles. This type of missile can handle multiple targets within 5.5 kilometers and can even attack helicopters. Ordinary 100mm artillery has an effective range of 7 kilometers. The 100mm gun is equipped with an automatic loader and can also be loaded with anti-tank missiles. The BMD-4’s 100mm main gun has a rate of fire of 10-15 shots per minute.
