The AH-1W "Super Cobra" is an attack helicopter of the United States Marine Corps. Developed and designed by Bell Helicopter for the Marine Corps, the AH-1W was delivered to the US Marine Corps in 1986, and the last AH-1W was delivered in 1998. After 34 years of service, it was gradually retired in October 2020. It was replaced by the AH-1Z "Viper" helicopter, also manufactured by Bell.
The Super Cobra is the first attack helicopter capable of launching both Sidewinder air-to-air missiles and Sidewinder anti-radar missiles. Both can use the same LAU-7 launch rail. The AIM-9L Sidewinder short-range air-to-air missile has an omnidirectional attack capability and a range of up to 15 kilometers. The AGM-122 Sidewinder anti-radar missile has a range of more than 15 kilometers.
