hobbyboss 1/48 81774 U.S. B-24J “Liberator” bomber
The B-24 “Liberator” bomber is a heavy bomber put into use by the United States in World War II. It was developed by the United Aircraft Company. It was active on the Western Front, the China-Burma-India Theater and the Pacific Theater during the war. It participated in It has fought even more battles than the famous B-17 Flying Fortress bomber, because its bomb load and range are higher than the B-17
In the 1930s , the U.S. Army Air Force already owned bombers such as the Boeing B-17 . However, the international situation at that time was not only Germany, which was rearmed by the Nazi Party, but also Japan, which had launched a war of aggression against China. At that time, the United States When the military realized that it was about to face these two potential opponents, the B-17 might still be insufficient, so in January 1939 , it asked the United Company to develop a heavy bomber with a larger bomb load and a longer range than the B-17 . United Company used its The developed MODEL-32 airframe and the wings of the MODEL-31 airship were used as a blueprint, so the development speed was very fast. On December 29 of the same year, the XB – 24 completed its first test flight. After that, Unity Company named it after the president’s nanny. “Liberator”. During World War II, a total of 18,482 Liberators were produced by 5 aircraft factories. The total production was the highest among various American bombers.
The B-24 has a bomb bay that can carry 3,600 kilograms in its fuselage, so it has a large and wide fuselage. From a distance, it even looks a bit like an airship. The bomb bay is divided into two parts, the front and rear, by the wing spar. The bomb bay door is not a solid aluminum plate that opens downward but a thin aluminum sheet. It is pulled up like a curtain before dropping the bomb. The wings are used to maximize the structural strength of the fuselage. The high-shoulder wing is very slender in order to have good low-speed stability and be able to carry the most fuel. As for its tail, it adopts an H- shaped design. The XB-24 does not have a defensive machine gun , which was added to the actual combat version later. , in general, although the B-24 ‘s defensive machine guns have various designs, they also have many problems and are not as effective as the B-17 .
The B-24 itself has a range of 322 kilometers further than the B-17 , and its front bomb bay can also be used to carry fuel. This is 966 kilometers longer than the B-17 , which also uses the bomb bay to carry fuel. The B-17 is already fully loaded. However, the B-24 can also carry bombs in the rear bomb bay, so the B-24 is more suitable as a long-range bomber than the B-17 .
In addition to being used by the Air Force as a bomber during World War II, the B-24 was also used by the Navy as an anti-submarine patrol aircraft.

hobbyboss 1/48 81783 American TBD-1 “Devastator” torpedo attack aircraft
The Douglas TBD Devastator was a torpedo bomber of the United States Navy, ordered in 1934, it first flew in 1935 and entered service in 1937. At that point, it was the most advanced aircraft flying for the USN and possibly for any navy in the world. However, the fast pace of aircraft development caught up with it, and by the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor the TBD was already outdated. It performed well in some early battles, but in the Battle of Midway the Devastators launched against the Japanese fleet were almost totally wiped out. The type was immediately withdrawn from front line service, replaced by the Grumman TBF Avenger.
