The 38 ( t ) light tank was originally a Czech World War II design. After the Czech Republic was taken over by Germany, it also equipped the German Army and participated in the invasion of Poland and Russia. Its production ended in 1942 because the Army deemed it insufficiently protective. Production totaled more than 1,400 of the various models. Its chassis continued to be produced, leading to the development of the Stalker and Marten 3 tank destroyers, as well as turretless self-propelled guns, anti-tank guns and anti-aircraft guns.
