      In January 1939, the German Supreme Command officially approved a large-scale shipbuilding plan code-named “Z”, and the “Z Plan” was officially launched. The plan will enable Germany to finally have the strength to challenge the most powerful sea power country by implementing a large-scale shipbuilding plan for nearly 10 years.

      At the heart of Project Z are two classes of large battleships, one of which is the Bismarck-class battleship, and the other is the H-class battleship.

      The planned design of the H-class battleships began in 1937, when a total of six ships were expected to be built. Construction of the first ship H39 started in 1939, and the keel was officially laid on July 15 of that year. However, on October 10 of that year, it was stopped for dismantling for the construction of U-boats. Due to the shortage of raw materials and the start of World War II, none of the H-class battleships were launched.
