The battleship Scharnhorst is the first ship of the Scharnhorst class. The ship type is divided into battlecruisers. In 1941, the Scharnhorst broke into the Atlantic Ocean for a sea-breaking operation. During the two-month operation, the fleet sank 22 merchant ships with a gross tonnage of 115,000 tons, which greatly damaged the shipping of the allied countries.
On December 25, 1943, Scharnhorst set sail to attack the Allied escort convoy. It was intercepted by the main Royal Navy’s main fleet headed by the Duke of York battleship. It was attacked by British forces and was eventually sunk by the Duke of York.
