A number of different breeds of dog were familiar pets at many squadrons, staffel, etc. depending on the air force they belonged to. In several cases, they became legends, and sometimes they were added into the emblems of the squadrons. Many dogs which were not mentioned in memoirs, or were not pictured in famous photos, helped to make the life at field airports between the combat flights, more pleasant and colourful.
